Bug Catching Strategy

Equip your Bug Net and approach rare insects slowly while sneaking. Starting a swing too early or running past a bug will scare it off, so close the distance first, then strike. Checking the Time column matters because many moths and butterflies only emerge after dark.

Weather is the biggest hidden filter. On rainy days, head to water edges for aquatic insects that do not spawn in sun. On clear days, sweep forests, meadows, and flowers for butterflies and bees. Mine-dwelling bugs appear on specific floors, so read the Location column before you dive.

Donate the first of each species to the Museum, then sell duplicates. Once a set is complete, you can focus on the highest-price insects for Tesserae.

What is the most valuable insect in Fields of Mistria?

Biggest Beetle sells for the highest price at 120 Tesserae. Rare cave and nighttime insects generally pay more than common overworld bugs, so target them once you know their spawn windows.

Which insects only appear in bad weather?

Several insects only spawn in rain or after storms. Use the Weather column in the tables below: any entry that is not "Any" has a weather trigger. Rainy days in particular unlock water-edge bugs such as the puddle spider.

How do I catch rare butterflies and moths?

Approach slowly, use sneak, and swing your Bug Net only when close. Many rare species are active at night or during specific seasons, so check the Time and Seasons columns before you search.

Should I donate insects to the Museum?

Yes. Donate the first specimen of each species to the Museum before selling. 85 of the 93 insects contribute to museum sets, and completing them unlocks rewards.
